Abstract:  J.B. Stoner, a Georgia native, was known for his strong opinions about segregation, race and politics. He was a member of the Ku Klux Klan and National States’ Rights Party and founded the Stoner’s Christian Anti-Jewish Party. In 1977, Stoner was indicted, and was later convicted and imprisoned, for the 1958 bombing of an African-American church in Birmingham, Alabama. He ran for numerous public offices including governor of Georgia in 1970. This collection contains Stoner’s gubernatorial campaign poster and a flier for a 1974 meeting of the National States’ Rights Party.

Abstract:  Bob Short is a journalist and writer who has been closely involved with Georgia politics since the 1950s. The audiovisual materials in his collection include films documenting Marvin Griffin's tenure as governor in the 1950s, Griffin's 1962 gubernatorial campaign against Carl Sanders, recordings documenting the States' Rights Councin in Georgia in the 1950s, and "A Visit with the Governor," a series of weekly addresses by then-Gov. Jimmy Carter that were recorded for broadcast in 1973-75.
