Abstract:  The J.B. Fuqua Public Service Papers detail the political career of self-made businessman and philanthropist, J.B. Fuqua. Fuqua was born and raised in Prince Edward County, Virginia before settling in Augusta, Georgia with his family. His primary business was ownership of WJBF television and radio stations. Fuqua became involved with politics in 1957 when he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives for Richmond County where he served four terms. During his tenure as a politician, Fuqua was responsible for helping Carl Sanders become elected as governor in 1962 and also served as a member of the Democratic National Convention Committee in 1964. The collection includes papers detailing Fuqua’s involvement with the Georgia Democratic Party, photographs, campaign memorabilia, and audiovisual materials.

Abstract:  Martha (Marti) Plemmons Fullerton was born on January 13, 1942, in Murphy, N.C. She attending Young Harris College and Florida State University. Fullerton held various positions in the Bowdoin Commission from 1963 to 1999. She also served on the Constitutional Revision Committee and as an aide in the State Senate. Fullerton has also worked in the Lieutenant Governor's office and the Governor's office. In 1998 she was appointed Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Labor by Governor Zell Miller. Fullerton discusses her friendship with Zell Miller, her experience in politics, and her appointment to Labor Commissioner.
