Abstract:  The collection consists of papers of Benjamin B. Blackburn from 1969 to 1974. The papers include correspondence, both incoming constituent letters and copies (green forms) of Blackburn's outgoing correspondence; clippings; speeches; reports; press releases; printed materials; photographs; and maps. The materials document Blackburn's activities in the United States House of Representatives including his tenure on the Banking and Currency Committee, the Joint Economic Committee, and the Housing and Domestic Finance Committee. The correspondence mainly pertains to concerns of Blackburn's constituents and contains information on the 1974 Watergate investigation and Richard M. Nixon, the Vietnamese conflict and prisoners of war, the United Nations, foreign policy and trade, health care, taxation, and environmental issues.

Abstract:  Benjamin H. Purcell (1928-2013) was a lieutenant colonel and POW during the Vietnam War and a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. Anne Grant Purcell is a civic and church leader from Clarksville, Georgia. Their papers document Mrs. Purcell's efforts to earn the release of Col. Purcell following his capture by the Viet Cong, the Purcells' work to share their experiences, Col. Purcell's tenure as a state representative, and his work on behalf of veterans of the Vietnam War. The papers include correspondence, speeches and remarks, book manuscripts and promotional material, campaign and political files, clippings, posters, and photographs.

Abstract:  The Birdie Bryan Miller Papers document Miller’s life and career in Young Harris, Georgia, where she taught at Young Harris College and was active in local politics, including twice serving as mayor of the town and sitting on the city council. The collection includes personal files that consist of clippings, correspondence, and civic records as well as certificates, clippings and campaign material pertaining to her son, former Georgia Governor and United States Senator Zell Miller. The collection also includes items that belonged to her late husband, Stephen Grady Miller, including his diplomas from Young Harris College and King’s College of the University of London, postcards and photographs from his service in World War I, and material from his time in the Georgia State Senate in the 1927-1928 session.

The audiovisual materials in his collection include films documenting Marvin Griffin's tenure as governor in the 1950s, Griffin's 1962 gubernatorial campaign against Carl Sanders, recordings documenting the States' Rights Councin in Georgia in the 1950s, and "A Visit with the Governor," a series of weekly addresses by then-Gov. Jimmy Carter that were recorded for broadcast in 1973-75.
